Cardiff Animation Festival

Program and poster design for Cardiff’s legendary animation festival.

The Project Brief

Cardiff Animation Festival brings together thousands of animation lovers and professionals since 2018 with an online and in-person event spread out in Cardiff’s favourite venues.

Each year they collaborate with an artist for the animation festival’s theme and 2022’s poster art belonged to Dante Zaballa and Osian Efsian. (You can read the interview with the artists here.)

We were given the task to work with the artwork to create all the printed festival assets such as the program, passes, and schedule posters.

The Yellow Sub Approach

We had a quick turnaround request, which is always challenging but a good opportunity to test skills under pressure. So we got stuck-in designing the layouts and style for that year’s guide right away.

We worked closely with the CAF team and as a result, we managed to produce programs, passes, and posters in time for the festival launch.

Yellow Sub created our festival brochures and fold-out passes for Cardiff Animation Festival 2022. They were brilliant to work with. Melin is so skilled and knowledgeable – she totally nailed the brief, gave us great advice, and brought her own brilliant design ideas too. We can’t wait to work with Yellow Sub again for our next festival brochure.

Project Outcome

The festival was another success story for the CAF team.

We had positive feedback and truly enjoyed becoming a part of the CAF team for the festival period. Getting access to all events and incredible animation films, and events was a bonus!

We truly care about being part of our creative community in our home city of Cardiff and getting to share and collaborate with everyone in it. CAF works tirelessly on sustainability in film sectors, which adds more fire to our bellies!

Bring it on CAF 2024!
