The Project Brief

Yellow Sub Hydro’s Periscope is a cloud-based application for near real-time simulations of coupled surface and groundwater modeling, at the catchment scale.

Periscope is the brainchild of our entire team at Yellow Sub Group. Having just secured a significant investment from Angels Invest Wales and Match Funded Development Bank of Wales, we are incredibly excited to be part of this innovative approach to water resource management on a global scale. It was our mission to support the creation of an interactive hydrological environment that would appeal to Data Scientists and Engineers alike, who would otherwise still be using Windows 3.11. 

Periscope is a tech solution that benefits ALL stakeholders

Current solutions in water balance modeling are slow, inflexible, and inaccessible.  A typical model can take 6 months, maybe a year, and sometimes 3 years to reliably and accurately understand and forecast water balance within a given catchment.

Periscope by Yellow Sub Hydro provides a quick, accurate, and flexible way of presenting the complexity of environmental data so that it is both understandable and useful to technical and non-technical users alike. It is a globally scalable SaaS (software-as-a-service) platform to enable better water adaptation and resilience strategies in the face of climate change.

The Yellow Sub Approach

Branding 

We started with the branding process which was inspired by the Yellow Sub Group branding as was the product name “Periscope” We needed Periscope to appeal to its target audience as well as reflecting the ‘Yellow Sub spirit’. We needed a visual language that is playful, fun, and bold while highlighting the biggest problem of our time; water demand and supply. 

We were inspired by our purpose: water as a resource to be safeguarded for all life on earth.

Promotional materials

We have worked on several promotional materials for Periscope, such as presentations, information and explainer videos.  


Our exciting explainer video helped paint a clearer picture of Periscope’s functionality and purpose in conferences all around the world.

Project Outcome

Periscope is still under development and we are proud to be part of this important process.
